At its core, preaching is about breaking open the Word of God.

Being with the readings to see what emerges is a basic part of preparing to preach, and being drawn into the living encounter with God through scripture is a key part of the experience of listening to someone else preach.

As the URC doesn’t have a set order of worship, and is used to longer sermons than in many churches, preparing for Sunday worship is part of the process of the week for many who preach, so it has become a core part of Reformed spirituality.
