It’s usually worth talking to several possible spiritual directors before making a choice, and also worth agreeing at the outset to do a small number of initial sessions (typically three) before deciding whether to continue. Both of these are important, so that you feel comfortable with your director.
Sometimes people find spiritual directors by word of mouth, but other routes include:
- Ask those in your area on ourcontact page;
- Most Anglican dioceses have some form of spirituality network, within which there is a list of directors and sometimes also a way of matching directors and directees;
- The Retreat Association also runs a referral service;
- The London Centre for Spirituality Direction has an online directory
- Spiritual Directors International has a seek and find guide.
