broadening and deepening prayer
United Reformed Church Spirituality articles:

Introduction

Spiritual direction helps a person deepen their connection with God. It involves a director either in a one-to-one conversation with someone, or working with a group. Outside of retreats, people tend to go for spiritual direction perhaps once a month, or less. On retreat it’s usually daily.

The term itself can be problematic, and other terms include soul friend and spiritual accompanier. Whatever the term, it is a non-judgemental space to explore in an open way.

Spiritual direction sometimes includes introducing people to different ways of prayer, but it is much more often about engaging with the spiritual dimension of people’s lives.
